Lonely Planet review for Tibetan Kitchen
Launch into a variety of zingy curries at this colourful restaurant serving Tibetan, Sherpa, Indian and Nepalese food. For larger groups, the banquet is the way to go. Afterwards, the Brunswick St Mall nightlife is a short stroll downhill.

Awful
liv86 does not recommend this,
Went here last night for an 8pm booking with a large group of people for a birthday. We had asked for the area out the back which was not where we were seated, because there seemed to be a mix up as they called her the Saturday before to see where she was. The girl who's birthday it was confirmed 3 times that we would be able to order off the menu. When we arrived there they had a banquet menu on the table but 6 people weren't overly hungry and were hoping to order entrees and 2 weren't eating. One person also had allergies and wasnt able to eat from the banquet. When we asked if we could just order off the menu the waitdress (who appeared to be the manager or owner) was very rude in saying that it would be easier to order off the other menu. We decided that we would get the banquet for the people that did want it and then the people that didn't could order separatly and the lady snapped 'that will be too hard you can all just order separtatly, but I will just put the food on the table and you will have to remember who wants what. It will take a lot longer'. In the meantime, 2 of the girls had asked for wine buckets twice with no result, and it wasn't until an hour later when they asked another waitdress that they got one. They then brought one menu out for the table of 18 to share, and we had to go and get takeaway menus to read off until we got another menu which took about 10 mins. When she came to take our orders, a few of the people ordered entrees as their main and the people who didn't want to order didn't, as she had already been informed. However she lost the plot when I said I wasn't eating (because I am too fussy for tibetan food) and said "I am charging $2 for every person that doesn't order a main meal!". In all fairness, I think that it is fine to say there is a charge for people that not eating, but to charge people because they didn't order enough is insane. Also, they need to put policies like this in writing if they plan to enforce them (Her reasoning behind this was "this is not a pub it is a restaurant". I wish we went to a pub). She still charged one person who ordered 2 entrees for herself the $2 dollar "no main" fee. Then for every person who didnt order a main she snatched their plates from in front of them by leaning over the table and clanking them altogether as loudly as she could. On top of this everytime she wanted to speak to the birthday girl she just shouted her name over the table (and as I was sitting opposite her she would lean over me and kept hitting me in the shoulder and yelling in me ear). There was not a single instance where she was hospitable in any way. It appeared that she used her warning that the food would take longer if we ordered individually to strech it out as long as possible as the people who ordered mains didnt get their food until 9.40. The icing on the cake was when I went to use the bathroom before we left which clearly hadn't been attended to all night. There was a stack of toilet paper outside the cubicles which was lucky as none of the toilets had paper, there was urine all over the floor in one cubicle and they were just generally dirty looking. Finally only one person really seemed to think their meal was really good. None of us will ever return

My Sherpa Chicken Experience
lee_83 recommends this,
Walking in to the tibetan kitchen the smell from the candles and the weird little statues just keeps adding to my obsession every time i go. I ordered the sherpa chicken and a momo and was delighted by the friendly customer service and inviting smells wafting from the kitchen. I wasn't waiting very long for my meal and every mouthful was like heaven on earth. Will certainly be reccomending this restaurant.

A Brisbane Institution

The Tibetan Kitchen has a regular haunt for me over the years. It's been around for ages, and it's easy to see why - it offers great food in an atmospheric setting, and is perfect for couples or large groups. Friday and Saturday night are always booked out, so book well in advance and be warned there may be a long wait for your food, but it's worth it for the tasty Nepalese and Tibetan dishes on offer. From samosas to Sherpa Chicken, you won't be disappointed.

More than just a Kitchen
dustylaptop recommends this,
The brightly coloured decor may seem a little rough around the edges, but adds to the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service of a family run restaurant. The menu is a playground for those wishing to explore the recipes handed down from Nepal to this colourful corner of Brisbane, and prices are cheap enough to explain the equally colourful and relaxed patrons. Particularly popular with the locals and groups, the conversation and cheer is aided by a BYO license and delicious food on offer. Not a restaurant for those in a rush.
