The Unpublished 10: Flashpacker Central
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 18 August 2011
I wrote this review of the new and impressive Sydney Harbour YHA hostel in March 2010, but as the publication later decided it wanted equal coverage of hostels across several states, it was shelved. Here it is now (with updated price details at the end) for your enjoyment...

Norah Head Lighthouse
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 3 May 2011
We were on our way back from Newcastle to Sydney and I wanted to pass by Norah Head to get my token lighthouse shot (i have a few!). Our timing couldn't be more perfect. The sun was just about to go down and sky was starting to have that pink/orange glow. I was giddy with excitement! You see I haven't taken photos in a while, and this is just the perfect setting to get back into it. The sunset was amazing and I loved it!

The Unpublished 9: Dreaming of a Hot Xmas
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 22 December 2010
A few years ago I had a go at selling a seasonal story on Australia's Christmas traditions to a bunch of US publications. No-one took up the offer, but in the spirit of the season I'd now like to share my Down Under festive musings with you. Merry Xmas!

Australia, you’re a bit weird… but I do love you.
Blog: Barefoot Inked - 18 December 2010
Last week there wasn’t much holding us back when we got in the car to do the road trip from Sydney to Melbourne. With a bag of snacks, an empty car and a hunger to see those friends that I’ve missed for a year… we set off. Man, there is some weird stuff in the … Read more

barefoot in the mother land…
Blog: Barefoot Inked - 6 December 2010
I travel a lot. It’s true. Some people think I’m running away from things. Perhaps that’s true too. But as much as I love to leave, there is something about Australia that I love and I think the more time I spend away, the more I love this beautiful country every time I come home … Read more

Streetscapes of Sydney's West
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 20 November 2010
Another month, another conference in Sydney - at least, my second in three months. And as I usually do on these occasions, I've been wandering around interesting bits of the city's inner suburbs. Here are some photos of the streets of Pyrmont and Glebe, former working class suburbs (now thoroughly gentrified) just west of Sydney's downtown area...

Sculpture by the Sea 2010
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 1 November 2010
Every year we make it a point to see the Sculpture by the Sea exhibit in the Bondi-Tamarama Coastal walk. The walk itself has some pretty amazing views but the art installations are an added bonus.

Blog: The Travel Tart - Offbeat Tales From A Travel Addict - 4 October 2010
Green Grass – Smoke it in Nimbin, AustraliaIt’s good to touch, the Green, Green Grass of home.. Nimbin is located in the Australian state of New South Wales, in the northern part of the state, near the Queensland border. It’s basically the alternative lifestyle capital of Australia, where people go to feel more ‘relaxed’.

The Streets of Newtown
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 3 September 2010
In Sydney for a media conference three weeks ago, I spent an afternoon walking along King Street in the inner suburb of Newtown. Although this once industrial suburb has been gentrified in recent years, there's still a dash of grunge that keeps it interesting. Fancy joining me for a pictorial stroll? 1. This is the interior of Luxe Bakery (just off King Street at 195 Missenden Road), which was recommended to me as a good new Newtown cafe. It was indeed a great place, with a cool industrial look, good food and a lively crowd.

The Unknown Art Oasis in the Outback of New South Wales
Blog: Landlopers - 16 August 2010
I am really excited about today’s guest post, graciously written by Brooke Schoenman of WhyGo Australia. Australia is a place to which I have always wanted to travel but never have. In her post, Brooke discusses a unique corner of the continent completely unfamiliar to me, but which only heightens my desire to travel to [...]

Breaking my coffee ban at The Rocks
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 25 July 2010
If there's one good reason to break my 2-week coffee hiatus, that would be the annual Aroma Festival at The Rocks. I mean, its not everyday that you get a cup for $2. The Rocks was packed with people and there is no better time to people watch. Or to buy goodies you won't normally find at the local supermarket. Or drink hot chocolate to fight off the winter cold. Gotta love this city!

Grrrr. Manly, Sydney, Australia
Blog: Chronicles of a year-long break-up - 27 May 2010
Inspired by a wander down Paddinton’s Oxford St, Gary and I decided that it was time enough that we shed our restrictive everyday identities and fulfilled our potential in Manly. A lovely little beach town in the suburbs of Sydney, some say that the highlight of Manly is the ferry ride over although I consider [...]

Camping at Cattai National Park
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 25 May 2010
I love, love, love the campsite at Cattai National Park. Its the best campsite we've been to so far. It was such a nice surprise, especially after all the rain we've been getting in Sydney for the past few weeks. As soon as we got there, I was awestruck! It's just so autumn-y, with the sun glistening against the golden trees, the leaves gently falling on the ground. You just can't help but stop and admire it.

Not just a pretty face. Sydney, Australia
Blog: Chronicles of a year-long break-up - 24 May 2010
It has been so long since I last felt like this. All these feelings of excitement and intoxication that come with the first few days. Feeling warmth radiate from my belly at every thought and lust at every glance. Knowing what I want to be looking at as the sun sets every evening and spending [...]

The Bold and Beautiful Bondi
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 18 May 2010
One could almost never run out of beaches in Australia. But for some reason, most people flock to Bondi (pronounced Bond-eye). It is perhaps the most visited beach in the land down under, attracting more than 40,000 visitors on a typical summer weekend. It even has its own TV show (Bondi Rescue). You might be put off by the number of people, and finding a parking space is a pain in your wonderfully tanned backside, but it is worth the visit.

Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens
Blog: Atlas Parasite - 12 April 2010
I do not recommend arriving in Sydney early Sunday morning after a long long flight while the rest of the city is all hung over from the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (note: you should be there FOR Mardi Gras). So what do you want the most in that case? My answer is a shower, a [...]

Roadtrip: Wentworth Falls
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 3 April 2010
Wentworth Falls in Blue Mountains is just a short 1.5 hour drive from Sydney (sans traffic). It probably has one of the more scenic walks i've ever been to around Sydney, and in my opinion better than the more popular walks in Katoomba. We were only planning on going to the Wentworth Falls lookout last Friday, but the Valley of the Waters trail beckons. Apparently, Wentworth Falls is not the only falls in Wentworth Falls.

Camping at Lake Lyell
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 25 March 2010
March 20-21, 2010 - Went on a camping/fishing trip at Lake Lyell in Lithgow last weekend. Its an easy drive from Sydney, about 2 hours away. This time, it went without incident. Perfect weather, no rude campers, and unfortunately, no fish either. Not even a single bite. The boys were a bit disappointed, to say the least (i think the exact word they used was "cheated"), hence they wallowed in their misery with beer and bacardi.
