Lonely Planet review for Parliament House of Victoria
The 1856 Parliament House of Victoria is a striking monolith of a structure preceded by a grand flourish of steps. Free half-hour tours take you through both houses and the library. Fascinating design features and the symbolism underlying much of the ornamentation are illuminated by the knowledgeable guides.

Before the Law
markbroadhead recommends this,
Definitely go to the Senate. It is done out in Greek columns, and spot lighting shows off the ornamentation. Try to go when the senators are sitting. Likewise try the Supreme Court on King Street. Workers in both places are "entertaining" in their boredom.
