Lonely Planet review for Jimmy Watson’s

Wine and talk are the order of the day at this long-running wine bar-restaurant. The fare is European, Middle Eastern and a dash of Mod Oz, with a nod to ingredients such as kangaroo.

Forget the food, head to the bar...

    lwnski recommends this,

"Jimmy Watson's is a Lygon St stalwart, dependably feeding students, families and business folk over two Watson generations".... Well, this is almost true. JW sure has been around for a while, but I'm not sure what kind of students it's feeding these days, unless they have upped the Ozstudy benefits quite significantly to above pov status so that that a 3rd year arts grad can appreciate the subtle Moroccan flavours of grain fed carp sautéed in a flambe red wine jus.

That said, the food, and service, is not quite up to scratch for the prices they are asking, especially when there are so many option available nearby. What JW does well though is booze. They have a lovely bar and great staff behind it who will sort you out and reccomend any drink you might have a taste for.

Unbelievably, they also do Dry & Dry ON TAP. This is a event not to be missed. Get yer Gran on the phone, tell her meet you at the bar and devour a jug of this classic grandma drink with the old bat and get her to tell stories about when things were better when there were more wars goin on and everything was powered by steam.
