Lonely Planet review for Lentil as Anything
What’s the clincher? Is it the organic and vegetarian ingredients? Or the Moroccan, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese or Sri Lankan flavours? That it’s a nonprofit enterprise? Or perhaps it’s the fact that you decide how much your meal is worth, and that it’s worth a mint.

Food and Friends
ladybirch recommends this,
The first time I visited Lentil as Anything was in the middle of the St Kilda festival. We arrived in a group of three, there were no tables and we were waiting with three other couples. A large group of people left and the waitress came to tell us she had no room except for a table for 10 people out the back. My lovely friend suggested to the other people waiting that if we grouped together we could all eat and get back to the festival.
Lentil as Anything is the sort of place where communal eating with random strangers just seems normal.
The food is simple Vegetarian fare but really good, meat eaters will enjoy it too and, depending on how affluent you are at the time, you can pay whatever you feel the meal is worth.
The staff at Lentil as Anything are mostly volunteers and they also help a lot of street kids and disenfranchised youth get back on their feet.
Regardless of anything else it is worth a visit for the yummy food and great atmosphere.

pay as you feel
bonitablight recommends this,
With a great philosophy, and healthy vegetarian food, Lentils provides a great casual dining experience. The bohemian feel and down to earth staff make you feel at home. There are now a few Lentils as Anything restaurants around, but the Sydney Rd, Brunswick restaurant has recently changed hands and is no longer Lentils. The concept of 'pay as you feel' is great, but don't abuse this freedom. Service can be a little sluggish, and food may not be to everyone's taste, but I think it's definitely worth going back.

Cool Tapas Bar
ride_on_postman recommends this,
A true Melbourne experience, enter by the alleyway into a big warm space, for excellent beers and excellent tapas. Try the croquettes and the Ortiz (Cantabrian artisan anchovy on crouton with smoked tomato sorbet ).
