Tapas restaurants in Melbourne

  1. Birdman Eating

Popular? You bet. It is named after the infamous 'Birdman Rally' held during Melbourne's Moomba festival, and you'll be glad you don't have to hurl yourself off a bridge to sit pretty on Gertrude St and eat up Welsh rarebit or dip into leek pâté.

  2. A

    Portello Rosso

Chef Aaron Whitney has travelled to Melbourne via Byron Bay and Majorca so expect excellent (read: real) tapas. There's an olde-worlde cocktail bar upstairs (Murmur), and the whole space harks back to its industrial past.

  3. B

    Bar Lourinhã

Matt McConnell's wonderful northern Spanish-Portuguese specialities have the swagger and honesty of an Iberian shepherd, but with a cluey, metropolitan touch. Start light with the melting, zingy kingfish pancetta and finish with the hearty house-made chorizo or baked morcilla (blood sausage).
