Lonely Planet review for Stokehouse
Two-faced Stokehouse makes the most of its beachfront position, cleverly catering to families and drop-ins downstairs, and turning on its best upstairs for finer diners. It’s a fixture on the Melbourne dining scene and known for its seafood, service and the bay views on offer. Book for upstairs.

The pleasures - 1, 2, 3...
antmag recommends this,
Best not to be enjoying a meal on too warm a day - the sun beats into the upstairs restaurant rather intensely... that is the ONLY reservation however, especially since they drop the blind as soon as you ask...
The service & menu are a delight. The pleasures:
(1) friends with you to share in the freshest (heavy on the seafood) produce in divine forms - the angus beef steak with garlic fried spuds was a definite winner
(2) people-watching inside the restaurant - amazing who you see (!) &
(3) gazing out over balcony to the bay is stunning!Good for: Romance, Groups, service

Downstairs - great for casual get togethers

Noisy and loads of fun Stokehouse downstairs is a fantastic place to go for families and groups of friends. They offer pastas and pizzas along with fish, steak and chicken dishes. The food is always fresh and delicious, service with a smile although in busy periods it can take a while to receive your order. Chill out and people watch and maybe do a bit of celeb spotting while you're waiting.
Highly recommended.Good for: atmosphere, food, Budget Travellers, Groups, Families

Dining in the upstairs restaurant is certainly a treat. The food is amazing and looking out over the water gives you the feeling that you're on a cruise ship. This is the restaurant to book for celebrating a special occasion.
