A plush interior, starched double-dressed tables, impeccable service, impressive wine list and outstanding modern Italian-Australian cuisine are the ingredients that make Matteo's one to bookmark. Degustation menus (including vegetarian) and platters to share round out the offerings at this warm and welcoming restaurant.

    Quality comes at a price.

    OK, so it's certainly not cheap. We're talking anything from $45-150 per head for the full service here, but in my opinion if your going to take in a restaurant of this standard then save a few extra dollars and make sure you really enjoy the experience.

    We tried the degustation menu and were surprised to find not only variety, but also decent sized portions of each course. (Highlights were the duck and the lamb) The food seems multi-culturally inspired, however, despite spreading the influence, they have managed to keep the quality at an exceptional standard, some real subtle tastes exist along with some real hard hitters such as the chocolate tart at desert.

    The setup is great with plenty of space between tables making it fantastic for a fancy birthday or celebration and the booze is top notch. I have enjoyed this place three times now: once with my grandma for easter, once with my wife for a birthday treat and once at a party. It suited all three engagements perfectly.

    So to wrap it up:

    Great food, good atmosphere but will definitely break the budget for any backpacker. Save this one for the special occasions.
