Lonely Planet review for Gravy Train

You wouldn't chug across town to get here, but you'd certainly pull in for a bite or coffee if in the area. Gravy Train is the coalface of Yarravillagers: students, workers and pram-pushers all converge on the bright dining room or roofless courtyard. Some artful savoury dishes accompany staple café fare, and there's a good selection of sweet things too.

It's all about the muffin cabinet.

    eeker recommends this,

The menu isn't quite what it used to be since management changed in 2008. The duck pappardelle is gone, but there's a bunch of approachable (if more pedestrian) café food in its place. If you're after something a wee but tastier, head north down the street to Le Chien.

The place is thick with locals, and the kid-friendly staff are an adaptation to Seddon's baby boom. There's a covered, heated area out back that deals equally well with raucous toddlers or summer-afternoon groups who would overwhelm the cosy interior after a few cold ones.

The coffee is as you would expect from any self-respecting Melbourne café and the cakes and muffins are better than good.
