Club entertainment in Melbourne

  1. A

    Market Hotel

A perennially popular nightclub with good house music keeping things going till the sun comes up, and then some.

  2. B

    Peel Hotel

The Peel is one of the best-known and most popular gay venues in Melbourne, but it also attracts a lesbian crowd. It’s the last stop of a big night.

  3. C

    Boutique

This opulent little spot on a funky little strip fills its plush booths with lovely, lithe young things who are heavy on the hair product and light on the attire.

  4. D

    Revolver Upstairs

Rowdy Revolver can feel like an enormous version of your own lounge room, but with 54 hours of nonstop music come the weekend, you're probably glad it's not.

    Eve

Florence Broadhurst wallpapers, a black granite bar and Louis chairs set the tone, which gets rapidly lower as the night progresses. Footballers, glamour girls and the odd lost soul come for cocktails and commercial house. Expect to queue after 9pm.

  6. F

    Brown Alley

This historical pub hides away a fully fledged nightclub with a 24-hour licence. It's enormous, with distinct rooms that can fit up to 1000 people.

    Onesixone

The haunt of trendy southerners (of the river that is), this sceney club is a beautiful people’s meat market. It doesn’t stay refined all night though, and after the cocktails, mixed drinks and other enhancements have kicked in, the bedlam of good dance music and happy young things takes over.

    Double O

Make the illuminated 'o' within an 'o' down the end of Sniders Lane your target for sneaker-busting beats till dawn. Downstairs is concrete and exposed plumbing, simply furnished with little hideaway booths for D&Ms. Upstairs is the place to boogie beneath the mirror balls to hip-hop and drum and bass.

    3rd Class

Legendary ‘if your name is not on the list, you’re not coming in’ club Honkytonks imploded a few years back and was reborn as this perversely dingy club that draws a very young, very up-for-it crowd. The antiaesthetic can be both shocking and appealing, depending on the time of night.

    Alumbra

Great music and a stunning location will impress – even if the Bali-meets-Morocco follies of the decorator don't.
