The 24-hour, nonstop cavalcade of illuminated excess is the Crown Casino & Entertainment Complex. It’s one of the largest casinos in the southern hemisphere – you’ll be either spellbound or nauseated.

    Great Restaurants

    ride_on_postman recommends this,

Crown is trying to establish itself as the gourmet dining center of Melbourne. It's doing quite well at it too, with Neil Perry's Rockpool, Nobu, Conservatory, Koko, Silks, the brasserie by Philippe Mouchel and the Waterfront. Excellent stuff.

    Melbourne's biggest cubic zirconia

    eeker recommends this,

The most obvious reason for the Crown complex's lurid existence is to fleece elderly citizens, cashed-up yobbos and high rolling suits, but there's a subtle up side: The Crown complex, with its casino and pop-dance-blasting nightclubs is a super magnet for the city's louder and boozier visitors, leaving Melbourne's famously hidden and enigmatic small venues to locals and intrepid visitors.

That said, a late night walk down the Southbank riverside is an evening treat with the spectacular flame towers throwing enormous fireballs into the night to lightly toast passers by. There used to be fountains and water walls here too, but they're all but forgotten by Melbournians now, with water restrictions having shut them down years ago (the city has been in drought for over a decade now).

If you do happen to find yourself stuck inside the complex and in need of a feed avoid the "food" court (did you really need to be told?). Automatic has reasonably priced food, nice outdoor tables, all day breakfast and a solid wood-fired pizza menu. The best bet though is to head to the east end of the complex and find a table at one of the smaller establishments, though perhaps I should qualify that recommendation by saying that I'm no gambler and don't have the depth of pockets for Crown's boutique stores or chip-burning roulette wheels.

If you ask me, Melbourne's real gems are over the river, hiding in narrow streets and back-alleyways.
