Gay/Lesbian entertainment in Australia

  1. A

    Civic Hotel

This three-storey Art-Deco hotel is a bit of a 'world of entertainment'. Sure, there's drinking at the smooth and snappy lounge, but there are also great DJs on weekends, live jazz and rock music, and even a theatre in the basement (which turns into a nightclub on Friday and Saturday nights). And of course there's an upscale restaurant as well.

  2. Sleaze Ball

The Mardi Gras after-party is so fabulous that once a year isn’t enough, with its sluttier spin-off taking place on the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend. Proceeds go towards staging the annual parade.

This landmark in bayside St Kilda is home to the iconic monthly night Girlbar. Downstairs, on street level, the back bar attracts a predominantly gay and lesbian crowd seven days a week.

  4. B

    Edinburgh Castle Hotel

There's a rocking dance floor at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel along with a bistro and beer garden. It's a local, friendly gay hangout with male strippers on Wednesday. On weekends DJs stoke things up.

  5. C

    Nu-Trix

Drag shows are a feature at Cairns' only gay venue. The shiny metal-clad exterior acts as armour against the morning sun, keeping things dark and doofing until late.
