Catholic Church
The church here is a reminder of the town's Christian history. Hidden Christians from Nagasaki were exiled here in the early Meiji period. It's interesting to peep inside to see tatami mats instead of pews.

Cat & Fiddle
Look for Brit standards like proper breakfasts and pork pies on the menu at this open-air pub that's – not surprisingly – popular with expats. Surprises include the 'Blarnyschnitzel', which is made with chicken.

Catch
Slip on your breeziest linen to dine at this draped, cabana-style eatery right on the beach. It's part of Twin Palms, even though it's not attached, and has all the same classy attributes as the hotel in both ambience and cuisine.

Cāng Ěr Chūn
Surrounded by cookie-cutter Western-style eateries, this small, two-storey place is a local favourite. A great place for classic Bai dishes like Grandma's potato (lǎo nǎi yángyù) and Yunnan staples like táozá rǔbǐng. There's a limited English menu, but you can also point at anything that takes your fancy.

Candi Bakery & Bistro
About 100m up from the Tenganan turn-off west of town, this smart cafe is worth the slight detour. The bakery specialises in delicious pastries, cakes and croissants. You can enjoy a menu of local and German meals plus steaks out on the tree-shaded veranda. Or just savour a Bavarian beer. A small cafe in town has baked goods.

Cancun Bar
A hodge-podge of bric-a-brac and bad lighting, Cancun is about as far from Mexico as you can get without leaving Kagawa. There's a wide range of drinks (most ¥700 to ¥800), and the friendly young bar staff speak some English and know the party scene well.

Cafe Zara
Peaceful and serene concrete-floor boho enclave on Gulou Dongdajie tranquilised by ambient/chill-out music (occasionally pierced by the squeal of taxi brakes on the road yonder); you can sit outside but you may end up swathed in fumes. Regular coffee comes with its own bottle of warmed, sweetened milk. Winning breakfasts.

Cafè Yum
Sometimes, you just need a good old burger, or a pig-out-fest at an all-you-can-eat joint. This place in swish Shangri-la in the business district ticks both boxes. Sure, it's a little pricey but service is good and the spread is a veritable feast. As always, we recommend leaving room for dessert. Oh, did we mention the all-you-can-drink beer?

Café Wayan
At the Alam Gili hotel, this fine place offers authentic Balinese and Indonesian dishes (try the steamed prawns) plus some good Western options (sandwiches with very fresh bread). Great service and a beachside garden location make it worth the trip up north.

Cafe Tikal
Through the old gate of the Kogawa family residence is this small cafe with large windows looking on to a pleasingly unkempt garden. Sit among the knick-knacks and books at one of the few wooden tables and choose from a range of coffees, including a mountainous cappuccino. Cakes are also served.

Café Teduh
Amid the big shopping malls, this little oasis is hidden down a tiny lane. Hanging orchids, trees, flowers and ponds with fountains create a bucolic feel. There's a menu of meaty mains such as ayam bakar rica (barbecued chicken with ratatouille) but the real treats are just that – treats. Try the es cakalele, a refreshing sundae of lychee and coconut milk.
