Chitlada Palace
The current royal family's residence, Chitlada Palace is also a royally funded agriculture centre demonstrating the reigning king's commitment to the progress of the country's major industry. The palace is not open to the public and it's pretty difficult to see from the outside, but you can spot rice paddies and animal pastures - smack in the middle of Bangkok - through the perimeter fence.

Farmart Centre
Established by Uncle William, ‘the quail man of Lim Chu Kang’, this is a one-stop showcase of small farms, including bees, goats, quails, ornamental fish, herbs and frogs. Take the free shuttle bus from Choa Chu Kang MRT. Various tour packages range from $5 to $10.

Slaket crocodile farm
Drive 700m further from the Pepsi bottling plant and turn left (west) and after 200m you'll get to a signless house behind which is the Slaket crocodile farm. It's open all day, including mealtimes - the crocs are always happy to have tourists for lunch.

Hay Dairies Goat Farm
Goats bred for milking. Demonstrations and tours take place in the morning and cost $3, including a free bottle of goat’s milk. Take bus 175 from Choa Chu Kang MRT and get off at Lim Chu Kang Lane 4. It’s a three-minute walk from there.

Qian Hu Fish Farm
A very modern farm breeding more than 200 species of exotic ornamental fish for sale, with an attached cafe. Take bus 172 or 175 from Choa Chu Kang and walk from the junction of Old Choa Chu Kang Rd and Jalan Lekar.

Massive orchid farm with more than two million specimens for sale. Education programmes also available. Take bus 138 from Ang Mo Kio MRT and get off at Stop B13 on Mandai Rd.

Jurong Frog Farm
Breeding station for bullfrogs, sold for their meat and medicinal value; more fun than you’d think. A taxi from Choa Chu Kang MRT should cost around $4.
