Salam
One of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in Seoul, this authentic Turkish one is hidden away next to the mosque. Pide (thin pizza), kebabs, hummus, baklava and lots of other options are freshly made in the open-plan kitchen. The restaurant has neat tables and Turkish décor and music. Finish the very reasonable try-everything nine-course meal with a puff on a sheesha.

Pamukkale
A welcome addition to the local restaurant scene, Pamukkale is a Turkish-run outfit that serves authentic kebabs and Turkish soups. Unfortunately the doner plate is never available (the locals don't like it) but you may be able to score a tasty chicken dish. The Turkish desserts are also excellent but portions are miniscule so you may need to order a few to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Bosphorus
The food of Turkey is a bona fide endangered culinary species here in Bangkok. Savour your discovery by choosing from the variety of predominately vegetarian mezze in the display case, or proceed directly to any of the menu’s various grilled meat dishes. There are also several Turkish desserts. Framed portraits of the Thai king and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk provide a regal setting.

NBM Restaurant
Rivalling the Merve is this equally excellent Turkish café, with pleasant open-air seating overlooking Rudaki. The food is great, from pides (Turkish-style pizzas) to excellent Iskender kebabs, and don't overlook the salad counter inside for some great aubergine dishes. Top it off with a sweet pastry rather than the unjustifiably popular homemade ice cream.

Marmara
The tiny wooden shack that marks the entrance and dispenses dirt-cheap takeaway kebab is so small you might pass it by without remark. Once through the door, however, you'll see the stairs leading down to the spacious seating area where there's sometimes live music, but always solicitous staff and a dizzying choice of Turkish delights.

Efendi
There's a menu here but don't bother - just saunter inside and choose from among the hundreds of kebabs and mouth-watering Turkish salads on display in glass refrigerators. In no time you'll be back outside enjoying your booty on the pleasant if somewhat noisy - and nonalcoholic - street-side patio.

Bahçe
Bahçe ‘The Garden’ might be a somewhat ambitious name for this small eatery, but it has all our Turkish favourites, including sigara böreǧi (filo parcels filled with cheese) and yaprak dolmasi (stuffed vine leaves).

Café Merve
Our favourite eatery in town is this excellent bustling cafeteria, churning out Turkish kebabs, Turkish borek (little pies), pizza, salads, cakes and coffee, plus the best breakfast bets in town (feta cheese and olives!). It can be hard to get a seat at lunchtime.

Anatolia
Authentic Turkish cuisine with an exceptional choice of mezze (including dozens of veggie dishes), succulent lamb and chicken kebabs and pide (Turkish-style pizza). Belly dancers strut their stuff here on Friday and Saturday night.

Darn authentic Turkish fare, including velvety hummus, is on offer at this restaurant where the charm of the owners manages to outshine the tasty fare.

Ala Turka
Filling platters of Turkish food. If you want doner kebab, arrive before 19:00 because they usually run out.

Sultan
All the wonders of a Turkish kitchen can be found in this sumptuously decorated yet reasonably priced restaurant: lentil soup, lamb shish kebab, feta cheese and rice pudding. It's behind the Friendship Store and is frequented by Middle East businessmen.

Erzurum
Smart and simple, the Ezurum serves up tasty Turkish fare including pide, a Turkish pizza, and tasty cheese bread. The service is attentive and swift, although it can get very hot in the summer months due to the wood-fired oven.
