H One
The nameplate outside proclaims the restaurant 'the ultimate dining experience', and besides wood-fired pizzas, handcrafted pasta, handcrafted breads and specialities such as Wagyu beef cheek and roasted northern Thai style chicken massaged with tamarind and spices, there are also 'kick-ass curries' and 'dum dum biryani' and tandoori. Over-confidence aside, this glass-encased restaurant does offer the ultimate view.

Rum Jungle
The best restaurant in the area, with a Mediterranean kitchen run by a terrific Aussie chef. The thatched dining room is patrolled by a fun Thai crew, and the food is dynamite. Who knew penne and meatballs or fish and chips could be this fine? The lamb shank is also divine, and so is the world-beat soundtrack.

Cliff Bar & Grill
With the mother of all views, the Cliff teeters on an oceanfront ridge caressed by a jungle-fringed headland that frames the interplay of sea and sky. The outdoor tables enjoy colourful dishes of Mediterranean cuisine, whose zesty flavours balance the humidity outside while soothing homesick tastebuds.

Del Gusto
Following the same formula as the Boddhi Tree Umma with a similar Mediterranean/Asian menu, the Del Gusto is set in a creaky old villa that whiffs of the colony. The old French building is perfect for the classical and jazz music that fills its space, adding a relaxed groove to the laid-back ambience.

La Paloma
You might go inside this restaurant just for a cup of coffee on its terrace, and no one could blame you, as its romantic ambience is unbeatable. The tapas and paella are fabulous. For a less decadent meal, try its afternoon tea set (MOP$118), served from 3pm to 6pm.

Lodi Garden Restaurant
A greenery-shaded haven beside lovely Lodi Garden: the menu and clientele are remarkably non-Indian, but it’s good for Mediterranean and Lebanese cuisine (think steamed octopus, sesame prawns and mezze). They do brunch at weekends, and there’s regular live music.

Number 18
The menu here is a mix of Asian and Western dishes, with items such as Japanese tempura and pastas. For a local treat, try the Sri Lankan beef smore stew, which includes beef smoked for over seven hours. Film buffs will appreciate the cinematic theme.

Sevilla
Planning to propose? Sevilla brings on the romance, with tables (some in AC huts) shaded by gauzey curtains, set in a landscaped candlelit garden. Food is Spanish-Italian, with delectable tapas.

Cococabana
Clichéd as it may sound, it’s all location, location, location. The service is rather lax, but with the sound of the waves, dishes such as bouillabaisse and duck confit go down well.

Nero Bar & Restaurant
Nero has a slick, high-design interior. The international menu has a Mediterranean bent, while the many seafood choices include the very popular spaghetti with king prawns. Fit for an emperor.

Xina Cafe
'China' serves simple salads and tapas during the day. In the evening, owner Pedro cooks superb, Mediterranean-style dinners for the lucky few who manage to land a seat at his table (you'll need to book in groups of six or more, two days in advance).

Café Absinthe
For fantastic alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and juices and an incredibly diverse menu of Mediterranean food (something of a rarity in Kansai), this friendly restaurant on the western edge of Ame-Mura is a must. The drinks and food here cost a little more, but they're worth it when you factor in the quality of the ingredients and the atmosphere. And, yes, it does serve the eponymous absinthe. Needless to say, this place can easily double as a nightspot.
