Beach Republic
Recognised by its yawning thatch-patched awnings, Beach Republic would be the perfect spot to shoot one of those MTV Spring Break episodes. There's an inviting wading pool, comfy lounge chairs and an endless cocktail list.

Nikki Beach
The acclaimed luxury brand has brought its international savoir faire to the secluded west coast of Ko Samui. Expect everything you would from a chic address in St Barts or St Tropez: haute cuisine, chic decor and gaggles of jetsetters. Themed brunch and dinner specials keep the masses coming throughout the week, and sleek bungalow accommodation is also on offer.

Sky J
There is some truth to the observation that cocktails seem to taste better when consumed at great heights. Here on the 35th floor of the JR Tower, the views of the Sapporo skyline twinkle to the tune of live piano and jazz music, not to mention the muted whispers of sophisticated patrons dressed to the nines.

Woo Bar
The W Retreat's signature lobby bar gives the word 'swish' a whole new meaning with cushion-clad pods of seating plunked in the middle of an expansive infinity pool that stretches out over the infinite horizon. This is, without a doubt, the best place on Samui for a sunset cocktail.

Hu'u
There's a menu someplace, but really this spot is all about air-kissing, seeing and making the scene, and an enchanting outdoor garden and pavilion. Action peaks around midnight before the southward club exodus begins.

Ku De Ta
Hardly an article gets written about Bali that doesn't mention this beachside lounge, heaving with Bali's beautiful and their attendant scenesters. It's usually packed with people unable to imagine being any place else, although at sunset you'll likely agree.

It's rather plush and lush at this rather intimate venue. Latin, blues, soul and more add to the pink glow through the night.

W Bar
Part of a three-storey lounge/restaurant cafe opened in 2005 by Taiwanese fashion designer Isabelle Wen, this 3rd-floor bar lounge oozes chic, with beaded glass curtains, high-backed wooden chairs and soft lighting. The 1st-floor cafe has a more casual, feminine vibe and a definite light safari theme. There's also a small clothing shop on the 1st floor selling Ms Wen's clothing and accessories. There's no cover charge, but there is a NT$350 spending minimum.

Pier
This sleek black box sticks out among Bo Phut's narrow Chinese tenements. It's the hippest address in Fisherman's Village, sporting multilevel terraces, a lively bar, and plenty of wide furniture to lounge around on and watch the rickety fishing vessels pull into the harbour.

Dragon Bar
This bar caters to those seeking snazzy, cutting-edge surroundings. There is a happening 'communist chic' retro styling throughout, and everything's dimly lit, moody and relaxing. Dragon Bar is rumoured to have the best cocktails on the island.

Kinfolk Lounge
Sip mint mojitos under racing bike frames hanging from the wooden rafters in this hipster lounge run by cycling nuts. From Nakameguro Station, take the footbridge over Yamate-dōri, then the first right and continue until you hit a T-junction. Turn left, go about two blocks and it’s on the left above a restaurant.

You’ll find paintings that dangle from the ceiling, giant mirrors against the walls, fin-de-siècle-style furniture, as well as the most extravagant toilets in the city. They all make this Philippe Starck–designed bar by far Beijing’s most eye-catching nightlife destination. Beijing’s movers and shakers gather here.

Q-Bar
Overlooking Chaweng Lake, Q-Bar is a little piece of Bangkok nightlife planted among the coconut trees. The upstairs lounge opens just before sunset, treating cocktail connoisseurs to various highbrow tipples and a drinkable view of southern Chaweng – mountains, sea and sky. After 10pm, the night-crawlers descend upon the downstairs club where DJs spin the crowd into a techno amoeba. A taxi there will cost between 200B and 300B.
