  1. Wilber’s

Wilber’s is a gem that is hidden down an alley in a historical villa. It has something for everyone: the patio is popular with ladies looking for a quiet natter, indoors is a gay-friendly drinking den, and upstairs is a fine-dining restaurant. It serves the best martinis and margaritas in town.

    Zappa

Unbeatable if you’re looking for a more intimate venue. It’s a cosy little place that once played host to David Bowie (he’s said to have discovered the place by chance and decided to drop in for a drink). Zappa serves savoury Southeast Asian fare and a few Japanese titbits for good measure. It’s down a narrow alley; turn south at the wooden torii (shrine gate).

    Tawandang German Brewery

It's Oktoberfest all year-round at this hangar-sized music hall, south of the city. The Thai-German food is tasty, the house-made brews are entirely potable, and the nightly stage shows make singing along a necessity. Music starts at 8.30pm.

    Spasso

Fantastic harbour views and alfresco drinking are the main reasons to head to this upmarket bar above Ocean Centre’s vast shopping malls. The drinks list is long on cocktails and wine, less so on beer. Arrive early on weekends if you want to snag a spot outdoors.

    Nest

Perched eight floors above ground on the roof of Le Fenix Hotel, Nest is a chic maze of cleverly concealed sofas and inviting day-beds. A DJ soundtrack and one of the most interesting pub grub menus in town keep things down to earth.

    Long Table

Not exactly a rooftopper, but the open-air section of this 25th-floor upmarket Thai restaurant-bar provides great views of one of Bangkok’s busiest central districts.
