Local Tour Guide - Peck Choo

A recommended local tour guide is party-loving Nonya guide Peck Choo, who knows every nook and cranny of Melaka better than just about anyone. She can lead tours on anything from short historic walks to several-day jaunts around the province and beyond. She is buddies with most of the other guides and can help set potential clients up with another guide or a specialist if need be.

Marwar Eco Cultural Tours & Travels

Jodhpur is renowned for its village safaris – jeep trips to local Bishnoi villages, potters and dhurrie (rug) weavers. The Bishnoi are a tribal sect who believe in the sanctity of the environment. Their desire to protect trees and animals dates from the 15th century. It’s a well-worn trail, so it can feel touristy – your enjoyment depends on how good your guide is. Marwar Eco Cultural Tours & Travels is a recommended private operator.

  20. Municipal Corporation

The Municipal Corporation runs fascinating heritage walking tours through the old city. They start from the Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur at 8am and finish near the Jama Masjid around 10.30am. It’s advisable to book. The tours, through narrow, confusing streets and past dilapidated, carved wooden houses, are an excellent way to get a feel for the city and its pols (gated neighbourhoods). Commentaries are given in English and there’s a brief slide show beforehand.
