Health alert--Chikungunya virus in the Caribbean

Chikungunya virus is now in Haiti, as with most other areas of the Caribbean. This is some information about the virus that may help you better understand the cause, treatment, and long-term concerns.

The vector for the virus is a type of common mosquito (Aedes aegypti ), which also happens to be the carrier for dengue. The mosquito is active in daytime. To prevent being bit, use DEET repellent, wear clothing that covers arms and legs, and consider a mosquito net for children or adults napping…

Authentic/Traditional foods

Hi all, My wife and I are considering a trip to/from Montego Bay or Kingston (where the flights go), traveling with a toddler. We will ultimately be search of local and traditional dishes for our website, eatyourworld. I am thinking we will not be able to pull off much coverage in Kingston as it may be too overwhelming, especially with our toddler. Does anyone have suggestions of where we should go if we fly into one of those destinations and where we can find authentic Jamaican food? We would…

Advice for a Haiti trip: itinerary suggestions + logistics information

Hello!
My husband and I will be visiting Haiti for the first time next month. We are spending the first week with a group visiting places like Port-au-Prince, Cap Haitian, Jacmel/Bassin Bleu. Our plan is to spend another 7-10 days in-country and we'd appreciate any help with suggested places to visit.

We're thinking to include: Port a Piment/Port Salut, Les Cayes (near Jacmel), and Mole Saint-Nicolas.

What would you add or take away? And how difficult is it to get around by public transport…

Blue Mountains Night Hike and Getting Around

Hi everyone,

A couple questions about hiking the Blue Mountains at night to see the sun rise:
- I read that generally the weather is best around late December to April. Has anyone been up end of November? How cold is it and is it doable? Would it be a better choice instead to hike in the day?
- Is it possible not to lodge overnight near the trailhead (i.e. take transportation late at night to meet at the trailhead) as we have already paid for an 8 night hotel stay
- Is there a tour guide that…

A week in Jamaica

Hi all,

I'm planing to visit Jamaica in a couple of weeks, I'll be flying in and out of kingston.
I'll be traveling with a girl friend, and obviously as two female travelers, we have safety concerns about the trip.
We are looking for recommendations for a tour guide, or touring company, or any constellation of the both, to take us on a safe tour around the island to see all the "must see" on the island.

So 2 questions:
1. Any recommendations for a decent tour guide
2. A list of "must see" for…

few hours for a layover

Hi-

I'll be flying to Tortola from Miami. As part of the flight, I have a layover in San Juan. I've never visited San Juan before, so I was thinking about taking an earlier flight in and getting out to see the city for 3-4 hours before my flight out. I know this won't do San Juan/Puerto Rico justice, but it's better than nothing, right?

Therefore, I wanted to ask if it would make sense to explore on my own, hire a tour guide/driver, or just stay put in the airport. Any thoughts and/or…

Antigua to Guadeloupe

I reserved a flight with LIAT in February from Antigua to Guadeloupe. An early set off at 6.10am but arriving at 6.40am. Without explanation, LIAT have now sent an email informing me that they've changed the flight to 10am to Barbados, a wait time there, then back to Guadeloupe arriving 4pm! I'm awaiting an explanation from them but what other options do I have? I don't think theres a ferry from Antigua to Guadeloupe and I believe only LIAT fly the route Any ideas? I don't want to spend a whole…
