Hostals in Argentine lakes region and more

Shall be about a month between Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires from early December. Propose to travel to Bariloche and up to Buenos Aires.
Suggestions for hostels in Chilean lakes region sought!
Looking for inexpensive homely hostels (especially in Argentine lakes region) where the 'traveller's talk' will add to how best to explore the regions?
Also, will be going from Buenos Aires to Salta and into Bolivia in February and would like to know of inexpensive hostels.
Looking also for a small…

Money Exchange at Border

We will be cycling into Argentina from Chile at the huahum border crossing west of San Martin de Los Andes. At a more "remote" border crossing like this would it be possible to exchange money at the blue rate or should we just ride into San Martin and test our luck there?

We will be cycling in Chile for a couple weeks beforehand. Should we keep a good stash of US dollars for when we arrive in Argentina? My only concern is that it is always sketchy to ride around with so much extra cash.

JANUARY IN ARGENTINA - ANY SUGGESTIONS

An invitation to those who know and love Argentina and enjoy planning ! My partner and I are off to Argentina for a month starting v late December. We want to do as much as possible since it's a long way and costly flight. We are in our fifties but fit (!). This combination means that in addition to a few days in BA and other cultural centres we are happy to do some hiking and glacier walking, penguin viewing, horse-back riding and exhausting wine-tasting but after years of back-packing we've…

Northern Argentina in July?

This July we're going to the Peruvian Amazon and I'd like to add a few weeks in a neighboring country. My main question is what is travel like in northern Argentina in July, their winter? Here's some background:

We're mostly interested in nature-related travel (such as national parks and wildlife) and don't spend much time in cities or on the beach. We've spent a lot of time in Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela, and the rest of Peru, so we'd rather go east or south. We're open to buses,…

Cheap flights from Salta to BA?

Hi All

I'd like to fly from Salta to Buenos Aires, but the flights on Kayak.com (Areolineas Argentina, LAN) are expensive.

Any info on cheaper flights? It's the only one I plan to take, so a coupon book of multiple flights isn't of use to me.

If not flights, how about a suggestion of a layover town between Salta and BA where I can break up the bus journey? Santiago del Estero? Rosario?

Thanks

LADE airlines - only bookable from Argentina?

I have tried to book LADE airlines online but I can not finish the booking in the lack of an Argentine ID number. I tried to contact soe local tour agents but the one who did reply wrote they can not help. Neither local tour agents in Europe seems to be helpful.
I read that there are LADE offices around Argentina. Are they the only ones where foreigners can buy tickets? If so are there any offices in Chile (we will land there and I guess the sooner we can book ahead the more chances we have for…

Anything special on Christmas Eve in Salta or around?

I understand that Christmas is a family matter, and this is the first time we will spend it on the road. I heard though that in BA they celebrate it with fireworks. Still it looks like we will not make it til BA, and would not like to spend it on board on an overnight bus (also it seems, that they are not even operating on 24th).

Thanks for any ideas!
