Getting there & away
Transportes Jacobsen buses connect El Maitén with Esquel at 8am Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. There’s also regular minibus service to and from El Bolsón with Transportes Nehuén.
Train schedules change regularly for La Trochita (495190; www.latrochita.org.ar), so contact El Bolsón’s tourist office, Grado 42 in El Bolsón, the train offices in either El Maitén or Esquel, or the tourist office in Esquel. At time of writing, it went only once a month to/from Esquel. Rest assured, you can still ride the rails from Monday to Saturday at 10am when La Trochita spins its 2½-hour Paseo Turístico (AR$50), which departs and finishes in Esquel. In low season it runs only on Saturday at 2pm.
