Bus

Viedma’s bus terminal (426850) is 13 blocks southwest of the plaza, a 20-minute walk.

To Puerto Madryn, Don Otto (425952) and El Cóndor (423714) offer the best service. To Bariloche, 3 de Mayo (425839) goes via RN 23, while El Valle (427501) takes longer via RN 22 and RP 6.

For Balneario El Cóndor (AR$3, half hour) and La Lobería (AR$5, one hour), Ceferino (426691) leaves from Plaza Alsina six times daily in summer.

Air

Aeropuerto Gobernador Castello (VDM; 422001) is 15km southwest of town on RP 51; a taxi to the center costs AR$8. Aerolíneas Argentinas (423033) flies three times a week to Buenos Aires (AR$484). LADE (424420) lands here en route to Trelew (AR$158), Mar del Plata (AR$175), Comodoro Rivadavia (AR$192) and Buenos Aires (AR$243).

Boat

From the pier at the foot of 25 de Mayo, a frequent ferry service (AR$1) connects Viedma and Carmen de Patagones from 6:30am until 10pm.

Train

Among the last of Argentina’s great long-distance trains, Tren Patagónico (422130; www.trenpatagonico.com.ar in Spanish) offers service replete with dining and cinema cars. It crosses the plains to Bariloche (economy/1st class/Pullman/bed AR$40/53/93/160, 17 hours) Mondays and Fridays at 6pm; children five to 12 pay half. Trains depart from the station on the southeast outskirts of town. Check the website for the current schedule, which changes often.
