Before renting a car to visit Península Valdés, consider that a roundtrip is a little over 300km. A group sharing expenses can make a rental a relatively reasonable and more flexible alternative to bus tours – if you don’t have to pay for extra kilometers.
Rental rates vary, depending on the mileage allowance and age and condition of the vehicle.The family-owned Centauro (02965-15-340400; www.centaurorentacar.com.ar; Av Roca 733) gets high marks as an attentive and competitively priced rental agency. Basic vehicles run AR$199 per day, with insurance and 400km included.
Northbound motorists should note that the last station with cheap gas is 139km north in Sierra Grande.
