  1. Disbelief.

Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 9 December 2011

I wake up, still in disbelief and annoyed that I can’t do anything to help my friends back home. It’s a horrible feeling. And it doesn’t help that you’re so…

  2. Cerro Fitz Roy

Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 8 December 2011

Absolute breathless, legs aching to the bone and getting to the “top” of the hike. I’m gutted to find I’ve still got another 50m to go! Once there, you are…

  3. Bienvenido a El Chalten

Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 8 December 2011

Winding along the Patagonia expanse, we stop abruptly to be met by this mind boggling view of Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitz Roy. The granite peaks are definitely inspiring. And…

  4. Hiking to The Southern Patagonian Ice Field

Blog: The Road Chose Me - 50,000kms of ebb and flow - 5 March 2011

Upon our return from Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, we cook lunch and rest for an hour in El Chaltén before we re-supply with food from the Jeep, register at the rangers’ office and immediately hit the trail to Laguna Toro. The trail is marked variously as taking between six and seven hours, and after [...]

  5. Worst Night Ever. EVER.

Blog: No Hurry Curry - 7 April 2010

3/29/10: El Chalten, Argentina to Perito Moreno (city, not glacier), Argentina There are so many ways to start this post that I can’t decide on a way to begin. Let’s just try out a few different beginnings then, shall we? Beginning one (purely informational): Getting to Bariloche from El Chalten is either two full-day bus rides, stopping in [...]

  6. The Great Idea for This Blog Post Fell Through

Blog: No Hurry Curry - 6 April 2010

3/28/10: El Chalten, Argentina I like those word games where they have one word on the top line and a word of equal length on the bottom line, and you have to get from the top to the bottom by changing one letter at a time and making a new word in each blank. For example, [...]

  7. We Sure Are Cute For Two Ugly People

Blog: No Hurry Curry - 5 April 2010

3/27/10: El Chalten, Argentina It all started out innocently enough, with some impromptu sing-alongs (me singing along to the voices in my head and Kevin studiously keeping quiet). Hey, when all you have is (are?) each other for entertainment on a six-hour hike, you have to come up with something to do, and I like to [...]

  8. Everybody Blogs

Blog: No Hurry Curry - 4 April 2010

3/26/10: El Chalten, Argentina Everybody blogs. Or at least it appears that way. And up until last year I never understood why. I assumed that just because my life was too boring for anyone to read about, there’s no reason I’d want to read what anyone else had to say about theirs. However, now that I [...]

  9. Coy Fitz Roy

Blog: No Hurry Curry - 3 April 2010

3/25/10: El Chalten, Argentina Today we did the Laguna de los Tres hike from El Chalten. It’s a 25-km round trip (15-mile) day hike from El Chalten that is supposed to give some of the best views of Mount Fitz Roy. It turns out that Fitzie was feeling rather shy today and stayed hidden behind a cloud. [...]

  10. Patagonia, We Some Want!

Blog: No Hurry Curry - 2 April 2010

3/24/10: El Calafate, Argentina to El Chalten, Argentina The mountains here in the Patagonian Andes remind me of Jackie Chan. They may not be the biggest things in the room, but they’re powerful and impressively built, and they’ll kick the butt of anyone who tries to stand on top of them. Plus I bet they too could [...]

  11. Road Trippin'

    Blog: Hecktic Travels - 16 December 2009

We had two options when leaving the small mountain village of El Chalten on Monday for Bariloche: we either 1) backtrack a few hours by bus to the nearest airport and fly, or 2) take the "legendary" Route 40 road trip - 2 days on a bus on the ultimate unbeaten track.Being the adventurers that we are, we signed up for the road trip. And now, in retrospect, after constantly questioning what the tour operators were thinking when they heralded it "legendary", I believe I have come up with the answer.
