Buses from Cafayate to Santa María or Tafí del Valle will drop passengers at the junction, but from there you’ll have to walk or hitchhike (there is little traffic) 5km to the ruins. It will probably be easier to get a lift back to the highway, since you can approach any vehicle visiting the ruins.

Another option is to hire a taxi in Cafayate or Santa María. You should be able to bargain a driver down to about AR$100 for the roundtrip.
