  2. The Mountains of Northern Argentina

Blog: The Road Chose Me - 50,000kms of ebb and flow - 2 December 2010

The differences between Argentina and previous countries are like day and night, and I’m surrounded by them at all times. The streets are clean, people are smiling and friendly and there is a lot more infrastructure. Fashion, with jeans/shorts and a T-shirt reining supreme, looks to be coming straight from North America or Europe, and [...]

  8. Road Trippin’ – Northwest Argentina Part 1

Blog: Never Ending Voyage - 5 August 2010

Our Silver Stag bounded down Highway 68, the sun glistening off the reflective hood. Salmon rocks surrounded us in great shoals, rising up high to the edge of the road before falling back into great wide expanses while all the time backed by a vast ocean of blue.

  9. In search of the perfect town. Cafayate, Argentina

    Blog: Chronicles of a year-long break-up - 26 July 2010

Picture the postcard perfect town. It’s small right? Maybe two main streets with a beautiful central plaza, populated by trees but not so many to obstruct views. The buildings are painted in vibrant colours – mustard yellow, aquamarine blue and ruby red. Polished wooden signs burned with the names of cafés and restaurants swing on [...]

Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 23 May 2010

Truckload of builders heading back to work It's hard to rub this smile off my face. I'm 30, but for once since 21 I feel invincible again. Here we are on the back of a pickup truck we just hitched, mountains in our faces, wind in our hair, bouncing along a lonely dirt road in northern Argentina. The unserviced back road to Cafayate We wanted to do a circular route around the wine region of

  11. Salta to Cafayate to Cordoba, Argentina

    Blog: Trip Down - 8 May 2010

Salta is a pleasant medium-sized town in Argentina’s northwest where I stayed at the luxurious Sumkama hotel (well after camping and Bolivia it would seem so).  I spent most of my time recovering after freezing in the Andes for many weeks.  I didn’t really see much of the city as I spent most of my [...]

  12. Cafayate in all it’s glory.

    Blog: Documentariously Challenged - 27 April 2010

Well well well, so we’re back from Cafayate. It was only a mere 22 hour bus ride, but we’re back. It seems fitting that our last big bus ride would be an overly long one. And that it was. We left Mendoza on Tuesday night at 9pm, arriving at Tucuman around 10:30am. Luckily, we had [...]

  13. A little more detail…

    Blog: Documentariously Challenged - 27 April 2010

Todd covered the basics and a tad beyond, but last trip means last comments and as usual I am not at a loss for words.  Wine, isn’t that one of the major reasons we decided Mendoza should be home base.  So a trip to the second largest wine region in the country seemed appropriate.  I [...]

  14. Discovering the Valley of Calchaquies

Blog: Nono in Guatemala - 20 January 2010

So here we were, on the road with our rented car. Readyyy??? We knew more or less where we wanted to go but decided to let some space for improvisation. It was raining a lot when we left Salta but it stopped quickly to let the sun shine. We wanted to go to Cachi but we got stopped by the police, the dusty road was cut because of the rain. So we decided to do the loop in the other direction: Salta –Cafayate –Cachi and back to Salta.

  15. Worthy side trip

    Blog: Hecktic Travels - 15 January 2010

We arrived in Salta and enjoyed one day, only to leave again the next on a 4 hour bus trip to the small community of Cafayate. We were a little road weary at this point, having already spent a significant portion of the previous 48 hours on buses, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to join our friends Gill and Ruth on this excursion to Argentina's second most significant wine region that is also the home of our new favourite little grape, the Torrontés.

  16. The desert wilds

    Blog: Felicity Sees... - 1 September 2009

Hola amigos!Feel like I haven´t written in a while, but I guess sometimes you need time to have the adventures before you can write about them!! And over the last week, there have been plenty of adventures! From getting kidnapped at the bus station by some crazy Europeans to suffering the effects of dizzying altitudes in the Argentinian highlands, the last few days have taken me through some of the most captivating scenery I´ve ever seen. I only hope I can do it justice in both describing and showing you (again, photos waiting on a computer capable of uploading them!)!!
