Introducing Paso de los Libres
The name (meaning ‘Crossing of the Free’) is the most romantic thing about this border town on the banks of the Río Uruguay. It faces the much larger Brazilian city of Uruguaiana on the opposite bank, and is connected to it by a well-used bridge. There’s little to detain the traveler, but the town has a picturesque central plaza and a couple of reasonable places to stay if you find yourself looking to stop for the night.
