Lonely Planet review for Av Las Heras
Av Las Heras is lined with souvenir shops, leather shops, chocolate stores and all sorts of places to pick up cheap Argentine trinkets. Items made of carpincho (spotted tanned hide of the capybara, a large rodent) are uniquely Argentine and sold in many of the stores.

El Rincon de la Boca

Great place for a cheap meal (April 2011). You can get a huge plate of steak and fries with 2 fried eggs on top that's more than enough for 2 people. Bottle of "vino turiata" 20 pesos, but I prefer the Andes porter for about 12 and voila! a meal for 2.
They do a lot of take out but I hear it it a very traditional place here in Mendoza and has been making steak lunches forever. Most of the tables are out on the street like other nearby restaurant, lots of locals and the occasional traveler.Good for: people watching, steak, fries, A cold beer

Where to buy great meat and produce at a affordable price
travelmendoza recommends this,
The secret to shopping for meat or veggies as a tourist is "El Mercado Central", or in English the Central Market.
A large shopping located on the streets Las Heras and Espana downtown Mendoza. Is a great place to find everything you need to make your own meals. Highly recommended for the budget minded backpacker or the traveling cook looking for everything they need to make a specific dish.
You can find everything here as far as meets, cheeses, spices and bread.
Good for: cheese lovers, meat market, cheap food
