Progressive Buenos Aires is one of Latin America’s gay capitals, and was a magnet for gay travellers even before Argentina legalised same-sex marriage in 2010. November’s Marcha del Orgullo Gay (Gay Pride Parade) gets bigger every year, and is now joined by events like the Queer Tango Festival. There’s no one gay neighbourhood – you’ll find gay-friendly establishments in San Telmo, Retiro, Barrio Norte and Palermo Viejo. The queer scene ranges from places that are billed as ‘gay friendly’ but attract a mixed clientele, to heaving clubs complete with dancing boys and dark rooms. There’s less for lesbians, unfortunately, although La Fulana cultural centre can point you in the right direction.
