Lonely Planet review for Parque Lezama

Scruffy Parque Lezama was once thought to be the site of Buenos Aires’ founding in 1536, but archeological teams recently refuted the hypothesis. Today’s green park hosts old chess-playing gentlemen, bookworms toting mate (traditional Argentine tea) gourds and teenagers kissing on park benches. Don’t miss the striking Iglesia Ortodoxa Rusa (Russian Orthodox Church) on the north side of the park.

    Only if you have time...

    gusb recommends this,

...Not the best park in Bs As, I guess if you are there for 2 wks or so and you are feeling explorative...or decided to walk from microcentro to La Boca (which is a fair walk but totally doable to soak in a number of neighborhoods), if not don't bother.

Definetly don't go there after sunset...a tad dangerous.

The Museo Historico Nacional, on the west side of the park, is worth walking into if you make it to the park...take note of the Aljibe (old water hole) in Lezama's summer house turned museum...

    On Parks

    markbroadhead recommends this,

This park is the opening scene for Ernesto Sabato's novel "On Heroes & Tombs". Consider reading it while you're in Buenos Aires. He captures the Argentine character well.
