El Ateneo
Even if you don't need a book, pop into Ateneo's flagship bookstore, the biggest bookshop in South America and a treat for the eyes. It occupies the restored Grand Splendid theater, built in 1919 and now complete with bookshelves in the balconies, reading nooks in the boxes and a cafe on stage. Some English books available.

Among the philosophy, history, art, and literature books, you'll find a large selection of tango books (mostly in Spanish) and a diverse range of Latin American music CDs, from rock nacional (Argentine rock) to Brazilian beats.
