Status
Raw shark and a purple corn cocktail? It tastes much better than it sounds, Status’ devotees will guarantee you. This no-frills eatery, packing in a nightly crowd with roasted chicken and rice, fresh shark ceviche (lemon-marinated fish), creamy potatoes and cinnamon-topped pisco sours, is a gastronomic standout in a part of town that’s rife with traditional Peruvian restaurants.

Chan Chan
A welcome newcomer to Congreso’s dining scene is this very popular and artsy Peruvian joint. Dishes range from duck to rabbit to lamb (don’t worry – no guinea pig), plus of course their delicious mixed ceviches and plenty of seafood choices. Try the chicha morron – a tasty corn-based fruity drink. Reasonable prices and good service mean there’s often a wait.

Astrid & Gastón
Likely BA’s fanciest Peruvian restaurant, dishes include cream of shrimp soup, crab with avocado and cherry tomatoes, duck in dark beer sauce and – of course – several kinds of delicious ceviche. Excellent pisco sours (if a bit pricey), exquisite desserts and very attentive service.
