Lonely Planet review for Mark’s Deli

Cool porteños and bagel-craving travelers pretend like they’re in New York at highbrow Mark’s Deli, a Manhattan-style cafe that’s nearly always packed. If you can score a table, the place is great for cappuccino-and-chocolate-chip cookies while you conduct a postmortem on your shopping day.

    Avoid!

    jjgittes does not recommend this,

Crowded, poor service, mediocre food and awful coffee, and pretty expensive.

Mark's popularity appears to have gone to it's head

    patp does not recommend this,

If you want a cafe with a buzz, then Mark's fits the bill. The patio is a lovely place to sit with a drink.

However, if you want one of their "fresh salads", you may be disappointed. The greens in our salads last week, were anything but fresh. Limp & yellow leaves can pop up from time to time, but a pile of old leaves which we fished out from our dishes drew no comment or apology from the staff. Is this the norm for Mark's kitchen and waiting staff? Is Mark's Deli taking us for granted?

Nice cafe, but no an Argentinan cafe

    martinungar recommends this,

Mark´s is a very famous coffee shop in Buenos Aires. Lots of tourist and locals too, visit this place to have a nice cup of coffee in their hands. Very famous for their salads they also serve sandwiches and cakes along. The coffee is good but is not the best coffee you will have in your life. There are always lot of people waiting outside for a table, so you need to go with time in your hands. This will give you a chance you choose what you are going to eat, because the menu is hanging on the wall. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy, but the hole place is a copy of a new york classic cafe, so if you are a looking for an Argentinan Cafe, you better go to "Gran Café Tortoni". The service is good but not outstanding and the prices are for tourist, relative high for the locals but if you are coming from USA or Europe you will find the prices really good.

    Best salad and sanwiches

    gonzobaires recommends this,

Mark ´s Deli is one of the best salad/sandwich restaurants in the city. There are only a few places in the city that can afford not opening after 9pm, and this is one of them. There is always people waiting to go in, so take into consideration some time when going to this place. Even though it is small and the service is just good, the food is delicious, fresh ingredients, and full flavour. It is located in a very nice part of the city, and the atmosphere is very cool and cosmo. Highly recommended!
