Tango City is one of many Hostel Inns in Argentina and is an excellent, 100-bed hostel in the heart of historic San Telmo. Occupying a converted old house, it boasts a giant kitchen, pool table, cozy common room, free tango and Spanish classes, and free dinners Monday to Thursday(!).
The lobby area is bedecked with ornately carved Bangladeshi furniture and wall hangings, and laid-back travelers lounge around on beanbag chairs in the TV area. A pretty marble staircase leads up to the tiny rooms on the 2nd floor. The 'basement' is a huge bar-style space with high tables, crystal chandeliers and painted brick walls. As far as hostels go, the kitchen is a real score, with big wooden counters and stainless-steel bar-style refrigerators. Internet access is free, and there are three computers. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the premises (at least on our visit) are kept perfectly clean. With The Beatles or Bob spilling mid-volume from the stereo, the place has an invitingly laid-back feel. HI card holders get 10% discounts.
