Yeah, yeah – drinks at the Marriott doesn’t sound like a winning cultural experience. But this palatial century-old hotel wasn’t always part of the mainstream chain. Designed by Alfred Zucker, the man responsible for St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, it still boasts a genteel art-deco bar with cordial service and classic cocktails.
