I am planning to visit several pacific islands including Fiji, Samoa (and possible American Samoa), New Zealand and etc in Nov & Dec 2015. I am holding Malaysian passport and from what I searched online saying that I will need to have American Samoa entry permit if I want to visit American Samoa.
Do anyone know where can I apply for this entry permit? What is the procedure and how long does it take?
Can anyone know if there is any budget/backpackery/dorm type accommodation anywhere on American Samoa. I'm trying to decide how many days to stay there, and the accommodation costs are a factor.
I have, of course, checked the list and Sweden is for sure one of the listed countries.
Just to be even more sure I have put this question to the relevant authorities
in American Samoa, and the say that I DO NEED the permit.
I have applied for the permit at the Attorney General´s office, but -
they do not answer since two months.
Having booked the flight and accomodation, it´s getting late...
My question here:
Has anybody on this forum made the trip to American Samoa?
Are there any cheaper options for lodging on American Samoa? Is it possible to camp any place with my own tent? I already know about the no camping in the National Park. Trying to spend three weeks in Samoa and American Samoa
but prices seem a little steep!
American Samoa has been selected by Lonely Planet Travel as one of the top ten US destinations. Here's a cool blog with lots of adventures and activities in American Samoa.

I'm rather confused about entry requirements for American Samoa. I hold a passport from a 'visa waiver' country. So if I'm traveling to American Samoa (to/from independent Samoa) do I
1) require nothing to enter
2) have to obtain the regular ESTA for the US before going to American Samoa
3) need some sort of American Samoa-specific ESTA?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
