Some comments / tips (as i'm still here in country... #185 country visited)
1. Visa well, after 6 different Alg embassies visits / non-responses to emails / sharp "get out of here" tone/facial msg in one embassy / very strict adherence to their line "get visa in your country of residence", ... finally got Visa with my second…
I am a French national living in the UK. I'm planning to visit Algeria (north west) to visit my Dad.
My Dad is trying to get an accommodation certificate for me but he was told it has to come from a couple or a family (he is staying there on his own for a few weeks)??! He's going to try again, but failing that I thought I might try the (only) local hotel. Does anyone know how it works to get a certificate from a hotel? Do I need to prove I'm going to stay at the hotel for the entire length of…
I have spoken with a couple tour guides in Algeria that say that most every location to do a desert trek is currently closed. Does anyone know of any areas that are open and would be good to see the large sand dunes in Algeria? Or do you just recommend seeing the Sahara from Tunisia? Thank you.
Hi guys, me and a friend we are going to do a road-trip next week in Algeria for 2 weeks north and south, we are going to rent a car in Annaba, there will be 2 seats available, if you want to join and share the gas and the car rent for this epic trip send me a massage, we are going to visit many amazing places, like illizi, hoggar, bejaia... Algeria is safe and the people there are kind and awesome we have been here before in case you are wondering :)

Any tips on getting a visa? The Algerian Embassy in London aren't answering the phone.
In May I'm hoping to visit a friend and do a little independent travel. Website says I need a letter of invitation notorised at the town hall and confirmation of hotel bookings.
Spoke to friend they aren't sure what's needed in the letter, also may have some issues, time wise, getting paperwork via town hall.
Has anyone managed to get a visa without this and a string of hotel bookings? Was hoping to…
I'm leaving for Algiers next week and got my hands on 5000 DA before leaving. At least this will get me to the city and into a hotel without having to change money at the airport!
Does anyone have some recent info on where to change money in Algiers?
Any pointers for what currency and what denominations to bring would be highly appreciated too!
My first visit to Algeria (an organised tour) is looming, and I'm doing some research. Up-to-date guidebooks are difficult to come by, so some of what I'm reading is a bit dated. I would therefore appreciate any current advice about things to leave at home. One guidebook mentions binoculars (I wouldn't anyway), but presumably there's no problem taking a modest amount of photographic equipment, a very small laptop etc. I don't have any specific reason to worry about these issues, but when I…
Hey! As said, I am 20 years old and planning to visit Algiers, and a couple surrounding cities for 4.5 days.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Would it be safe for me to roam around the city on my own? I don't know anyone in Algiers so I won't have much company.
2. For visiting the Casbah I've read that a tour guide is highly recommended? Do you agree? Can you recommend any good one?
3. I'm planning on couchsurfing or cheap hostels (though I don't seem to find many), any recommendations?
The Algerian embassy in Holland says they cannot issue a visa for me without a permit to go to Ghardaia. Is it difficult to get this permit? My agency says they will rearrange the itinerary for visa purposes and arrange the permit when I am there. How long would that take?
I'm going on a city trip to Algiers next month!
I'm trying to find the best guide book, usually I use Lonely Planet bur since it is quite outdated, I'm wondering if you guys have any tips. This can be in English or French, I speak both fluently.
In addition to this, does anyone have any contacts for a guide to the Kasbah?
Many thanks and happy travels!!
