Many Algerians are happy to jump into the sea near the port, but the water is far from clean and you need to drive a long way out of the city to find clean water. Swimming pools can be just as difficult to find. The Complexe Nautique has one indoor and two open-air Olympic-sized pools, although you may need to join (and therefore bring a passport) to get into the water.
