Marvel at the world's highest sand dunes, float through the Okavango in a dug-out mokoro canoe and meet the San Bushmen in the blazing Kalahari Desert on this epic overland adventure. Journey across nearly half of the African continent—from the southern tip of Africa to Kenya—and soak up the vibrant colours, culture and scenery of seven countries. Our overland trucks are an adventurous and inexpensive way to enjoy the region’s intriguing combination of wilderness and bright city lights, while camping under Africa’s big sky will provide a unique perspective. Take the road less travelled and come away with jaw-dropping photographs and a deeper understanding of this incredible continent.

Itinerary

Day 1 Cape Town

Arrive at any time.

Day 2-3 Cederberg/Gariep River (2B,2L,2D)

View dramatic Western Cape scenery, camp on a local farm, sip a local wine. Opt to canoe on or jump into the Gariep River.

Day 4-6 Fish River Canyon/Namib Desert (3B,3L,3D)

Enjoy the sunset at Fish River Canyon. Explore Sossusvlei Dunes, climbing the breathtaking Dune 45.

Day 7-11 Swakopmund/Damaraland/Etosha National Park (4B,4L,3D)

Various game drives in Etosha in our private vehicle. Meet our local friends and explore the back streets and local culture on a guided interpretive walk. Options to sand board, go on a dolphin cruise, or explore historical Swakopmund.

Day 12-15 Waterberg Plateau/Windhoek/Kalahari/Maun (4B,3L,3D)

Optional forest walk in Waterberg Plateau National Park. Stop over in Kalahari Desert, and choose to learn survival skills from the locals.

Day 16 Okavango Delta (1B,1L,1D)

Enjoy game walks, traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursions and birding during our night of bush camping. Learn the ways of the bush from your local polers.

Day 17-18 Gweta/Chobe River (2B,2L,2D)

Camp under ancient baobab trees. Option to embark on a boat cruise on the Chobe River or game drive in open safari vehicle in Chobe National Park.

Day 19-24 Livingstone/Lusaka/Chipata (6B,3L,2D)

Ferry crossing to Zambia. Camp on a private game farm. Option to visit Victoria Falls, enjoy whitewater rafting, canoeing, take an elephant-back safari and perhaps fly over the falls.

Day 25-28 Lake Malawi (4B,4L,4D)

Relax on the shores of 'the lake of stars', visit various lakeside camps. Option to go for walks, snorkelling, take a village tour or go on a fishing trip.

Day 29-30 Iringa/Dar es Salaam (2B,2L,2D)

Climb out of the Great Rift Valley, view vast tea plantations, descend down to the Indian Ocean.

Day 31-34 Zanzibar/Stone Town/Nungwi (4B)

Explore Stone Town and enjoy a guided tour of a spice plantation. Option to visit museums, historical sites and markets. Enjoy the beach and marine activities like snorkelling, scuba diving and swimming.

Day 35-36 Korogwe/Arusha (2B,2L,2D)

Ferry to Dar es Salaam. Catch your first glimpse of Mt Kilimanjaro. Option to visit craft markets.

Day 37-39 Serengeti National Park/Ngorongoro Crater/Arusha (3B,3L,3D)

Change over to 4x4 safari vehicles; enjoy daily game drives.

Day 40 Nairobi (1B,1L)

Travel through the lands of the Masai people to Nairobi, where the tour ends upon arrival in the late afternoon.
