Itinerary
Day 1 Dar es Salaam
Arrive in Dar es Salaam and settle in to beach camp on the outskirts of the city. Stroll along the bustling ports, people watch from cafes or kick back on the sand, enjoying the mellow vibe of this idyllic spot.
Days 2-4 Zanzibar
Sail to the 'Spice Island' of Zanzibar to explore the winding cobblestone alleyways and fragrant bazaars. Try a deliciously fresh seafood curry and take a guided tour of the inland spice plantations to see where the mouthwatering flavours come from. Spend free time sipping cocktails at seaside bars or relaxing on idyllic sands.
Day 5 Dar es Salaam
Take the ferry back to the African mainland and be treated to another night at beach camp.
Day 6 Marangu
Climb the lower slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro to reach the small village of Marangu, that is situated by the streams that run down form Mt Kilimanjaro's glaciers. Enjoy fantastic views of the mountain and the surrounding countryside, and take a walking tour of Mshiri Village and witness the day-to-day life of the Chagga people.
Day 7 Arusha
Enter Tanzania and head for Arusha, Tanzania's safari capital, located at the base of Mt Meru. Stock up on supplies and perhaps enjoy a traditional meal at one of the many eateries before making your way into the wilds of Africa!
Days 8-9 Serengeti National Park/Ngorongoro Crater
Journey into the wide, open plains of the Serengeti National Park, home to thousands of hoofed animals and fierce predators. Try to spot all of Africa's Big Five on game drives and sleep in the midst of nature, letting the nocturnal sounds of this unique African habitat lull you to sleep.
Day 10 Mto Wa Mbu
The famous Ngorongoro crater is home to more than 30,000 animals including the endangered black rhino, zebras and hippos. Keep cameras handy as you game drive through the heart of this natural wonder. Stop by the small village community of Mto Wa Mbu and get an insight into the traditional African way of life.
Day 11 Nairobi
After an early start, get set for a day of travelling, leaving the serenity of the Serengeti for the bustling Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
Days 12-13 Masai Mara
Leave the city behind once again and head into the heart of the Masai Mara. Keep an eye out for prides of lions, herds of elephants and, if you are lucky, a stealthy cheetah or leopard, all of which call the Masai Mara home.
