PAMET
PAMET is an inspiring project that was set up to teach people how to recycle paper. This is an important issue in Malawi, where some people are too poor to buy exercise books for their children. For USaround US$1 you can take a tour of their workshop to see how it's all done. They sell a lovely variety of cards and other paper products made from a range of different material (including elephant dung!).
To help slow down the rate of deforestation, PAMET makes paper briquettes that are used as an alternative to charcoal and firewood.

House of Abu Shaheen
The House of Abu Shaheen, or Mill House has a reconstructed mill on the ground floor, featuring enormous wooden beams and planks. You can actually see the gears and teeth rotate, which 200 years ago would have been pushed in an endless circle by a bored draught animal. In the courtyard, the roof of the stables is supported by granite columns with Graeco-Roman capitals. Tickets bought here are good for all of the open monuments in the town centre.

Molino la Maquina
Molino la Maquina makes gofio, made from ground corn or wheat. The pretty white stone towers were the old water mills used to grind corn. Now they're just for show and everything is done electronically.
