Vietnamese restaurants in Africa

  1. A

    Nuit de Saigon

This is arguably the best Vietnamese restaurant in Abidjan; the food is first rate and the décor swish. It specialises in duck and has an excellent French wine list.

  2. B

    Le Dragon d'Or

Slurp delicious Vietnamese pho (a noodle soup with coriander, bean sprouts and beef), sharpen your teeth on frog legs, or work your chopstick magic on tasty stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts and fresh ginger. The Saturday night buffet is also superb.

    Chopsticks

It's more of a multinational menu here with Chinese dishes the main star, ably supported by a cast of Thai and Vietnamese favourites for good measure. Look out for promotional menus at lunchtime, including the four courses option.

  4. D

    Restaurant la Pirogue

In the words of the head waiter at this friendly restaurant near the ocean, the food comes from Togo, from Vietnam, and from the sea. Try the agouti - a rodent called 'grasscutter' in English.

    Soi

Flash, oh-so-trendy Asian décor gives this place a hip, stylish edge. The Thai and Vietnamese food is fresh and zesty, and there's a bar full of beautiful people attached.

High-priced but very tasty Vietnamese is served on a barge on the Ébrié Lagoon. There is indoor and outdoor seating.

    La Saigonnaise

If you fancy a taste of Asia, this Vietnamese restaurant at the north end of Rue Abdoulaye Seck complements its great location (looking to Mauritania) with traditional and very tasty Saigonnaise fare (both the owner and the chef are originally from Saigon). Prices are a little hefty though.
