Lebanese restaurants in Africa

  1. A

    Dar El Amar

The challenge at this popular Lebanese floating restaurant is to draw your eyes away from the Nile views long enough to make a choice from the 53 mezze on offer. Unlike many other eateries on the river, prices are reasonable and you don't have to be wearing designer glad rags to score a table. A Stella costs E£24.

  2. B

    Double Four

Offering mainly Lebanese dishes, the menu at Double Four tries to throw everything into the mix - Nigerian, Continental, a bit of Indian - so if you're unsure where to dine, this might be the place. It seems to work, as the place is always packed.

  3. C

    Sabaya

Lebanese cuisine is Egypt’s most common ‘ethnic’ food, but it’s rarely done as well as it is here, where the diverse and delicate mezze come with fresh-baked pillows of pita, and mains such as fatta are served in individual cast-iron pots. The setting is very sleek, but considering portion sizes are generous and sharing is the norm, the prices are not as high as you would expect.

    Papillion

Rapidly acquiring the reputation of being Cairo's second-best Lebanese restaurant (after Sabaya), Papillion offers excellent mezze dishes (try the goat-milk labneh and vine leaf dolma) and delectable grills (we reckon it serves the best shish tawouq in the city). It also home delivers.

It's worth a trip out to Sweet Bite, several kilometres south of Ahodwo Circle, for good Lebanese food like shwarma, falafel, hummus and tabbouleh. Other options like burgers and seafood are on the menu.
