Bar restaurants in Africa

  1. A

    Café Tabasco

This comfortable basement café resembles someone's lounge room. It's a great spot to spend an hour or so browsing the magazine collection and drinking coffee. The food is generally forgettable, though the breakfast has a fair few devotees among the expat set.

  2. B

    Guildhall Bar & Restaurant

One of the city’s first bars, and one of the most atmospheric, the Guildhall was established back in 1888. There’s a wood-panelled, dimly lit English-style pub below, and an upstairs, wrought-iron balcony from which to watch the City of Gold pass you by.

  3. C

    Big Blu

This ramshackle place right on the rocks at the Point draws a young crowd. It’s great for a sundowner and serves burgers, seafood, steaks and tapas (R15 to R25) of a kind not found in Spain.

  4. D

    Gino’s at De Kelder

A reasonably pleasant Italian restaurant, bar and beer garden with big screens for the rugby.
