Since the demise of the old security thread, and the number of frequently asked I thought it might be a good idea to start a new 'Afghan FAQ' thread attempting to cover the most frequently asked questions and provide up to date information in one thread on not only security, but the most frequently asked questions about flights, travelling the Khyber pass and the classic 'is it safe?', since so many gems of information get lost in individual threads.
Hopefully everyone here, both our regulars…
Basically I want to know is it feasable hahaha. We are planning on entering Afghanistan from the wakhan and then ride down to Torkham in an effort to cross into Pakistan. What is the current security situation and does anyone know if some good routes? I understand it isnt the most incredibly safe thing to do but how does that region compare to others? Would it be smarter to pay for transport for the horses and drive? Thank you all for your help, hope to get an answer soon.
I have written a trip report for Jun-Jul 2016. I have never written one so any feedback would be helpful, e.g. any additional information that a traveller would be useful but I didn't include.
I (female 29) will be travelling to Afghanistan alone this spring and would like to hook up with a tour group/company that can take care of all of the arrangements/ itinerary while in Afghanistan.
Does anyone know any reputable company they would recommend? Have you used them in the past? What was your experience? Thanks
Was wondering if anyone has any recent experience getting an Afghan tourist visa at the embassy in Tehran? Info from fellow Australian passport holders would be great, but all welcome.
So I have been talking to this Afghan who now lives in the US (but visits Afghanistan frequently), who says it's safe to drive from Bamiyan to Minaret of Jam. Another Afghan who is from Bamiyan but now lives in Kabul says it is also safe but there are thieves (not gangs). I am very skeptical because this is opposite of what I've heard from the companies. Is the route "safe" for someone who look Hazara? I will not drive myself obviously - only by an Afghan.
The Afghan also recommends flying from…
I am planning a short trip to Afghanistan and want to visit Kabul and Jalalabad. Is it easy to arrange transport
to Jalalabad and a guide. Can hotels in Kabul arrange that or is it possible to take a bus.
How is the road to jalalabad from Kabul in winter, dangerous or closed of because of the snow?
in three weeks we go to tajikistan and a few days later we cross over to afghanistan for trekking the wakhan. we have allready our visa.
what we like to know:
has anybody been there the last days. what about security in ishkashim and the "road" condition up the first part of wakhan, are there any highwater from snowsmelting or landslides....
thanks so much
I am planning a week long trip to Afghanistan for mid July. At the moment the biggest hindrance to my planning is the rising cost for transport. The guys at Afghan Logistics seem to be doing a great job by their prices are pretty steep and out of my budget albeit I am considering to use them just for one day for the Kabul city tour but they're extortionately expensive for the out of city tours. So I wanted to ask you guys over here what transport options do I have in and around Kabul. Here is my…
Does anyone have personal recommendation for a reliable driver to drive me around Kabul? Perfect if he can speak some English.
I have trouble finding one, as the companies seem to insist that they must either accompany me for my entire duration in Afghanistan, or they can provide no service at all?
Would be great if the driver has a email/facebook/number someone can inbox me. Please only drivers you know personally.
P.S. I have dark hair and Asian features so I am unlikely to attract…
