Since the demise of the old security thread, and the number of frequently asked I thought it might be a good idea to start a new 'Afghan FAQ' thread attempting to cover the most frequently asked questions and provide up to date information in one thread on not only security, but the most frequently asked questions about flights, travelling the Khyber pass and the classic 'is it safe?', since so many gems of information get lost in individual threads.
Hopefully everyone here, both our regulars…
I just came back from the trip to Afghanistan. I was in Kabul, Bamiyan, Band-e Amir, Panjshir valley, Istalif, Mazar-e Sharif, Balkh, Samangan and Herat.
I had absolutly no problems during the trip that I can classify as one of the most amazing travel experiences of my life. The situation is very unstable though and I recommend you to travel with a local guide that can advise you about the currrent situation and no-go places.
My trip was organised by James from Untamed Borders that I…
So I am planning to get a simcard in Kabul. I was wondering if I would have trouble finding a nano simcard for my iPhone there. I had experience in other countries where people simply don't know how to deal with nano sim (didn't know they can cut a sim, etc.) and I thought explaining it to them would be impossible in Afg as I only speak English.
Are android phones (using micro sim) more popular there? Or should I just buy one cheap old ass phone that takes big simcard?
Hi guys, I am a British national hoping to make an excursion to the Wakhan corridor of Afghanistan later this year. An Afghanistan visa is difficult, time consuming and very expensive (£140) to get in the UK. However, I have heard that the Afghan consulate in Khorog (Tajikistan, near the border with Afghanistan) is an excellent place to pick up a visa. I've read several recent report of people picking up visas there on the same day with the minimum of fuss and no supporting documents (like a…
I traveled this month from mashhad to herat and back.
The bus leaves from mashhad "autobus terminal".
Ask for the bus to herat and/or to afghanistan. All the other busses were big, the one to herat is small. Here is a picture:
It has an afghan licence plate.
I forgot the price, it was less than 1.000.000 IRR; i think around 500.000.
I went there at 5 am…
Just wondering if any Australian have been to Afghanistan as an independent traveler in the last few years? The visa page doesn't specifically ask for letter of introduction, but not sure if if a word document with my itinerary typed out suffices for "state in details the nature of your tour and places you intend to travel in Afghanistan"?
Hi there, hope everyone is doing fine! I haven't posted on the TT for several years now...
Does anyone know if the Afghan Consulate in Dubai still issues tourist visas on the same day?
Happy Travels :-)
