Another Medina - Another Rabat
Blog: The View from Fez - 10 May 2012
For most travellers, the name “Medina” conjures up images of Fez, Marrakech or maybe Rabat. Of course there are other medinas in other countries, but it did come as a surprise to the team from The View from Fez to discover another Rabat – and one that also had a medina.

Life and Death in the Venice Ghetto
Blog: A Traveler's Library - 2 May 2012
Destination: 16th Century Venice, Malta Book: The Midwife of Venice, NEW April 2012 by Roberta Rich There is a corner of Venice, away from the bustle and hustlers of the Rialto and San Marcos that seems too austere to be part of the self-consciously gilded and carved and painted face of the city. While the [...]This content is a post from: A Traveler's Library To comment on this post or search for related information, click on the link to A Traveler's Library. We'll leave a light on for you.

Maltese Food Staples
Blog: Ottsworld - 28 March 2012
As you walk around Malta and Gozo, it’s very easy to simply think that the food is Italian. You will see pizzerias, and pasta restaurants everywhere you turn. However before you shovel that last bit of yummy pasta cooked perfectly al dente into your mouth and savor the sauce, or take the last bite of [...]

Putting Gozo on the Culinary Map
Blog: Ottsworld - 27 March 2012
I followed Philip’s footsteps carefully, trying to place my shoe into his last place he stepped as we walked upwards through waist high weeds and overgrowth. The two dogs bound along in front of us like rabbits leaping through the weeds; full of puppy-ish excitement. The hills were starting to burst with springtime color and [...]

Sliema Photo Walk
Blog: Ottsworld - 23 March 2012
During my two weeks in Malta I stayed in the charming neighborhood of Sliema. It was a perfect location to get out and see the rest of the island via the extensive, albeit slow, bus system. Its best asset is its promenade, which was recently developed and winds like a ribbon around the twisting inlets [...]

The Ultimate Accommodation on Gozo – A Farm House
Blog: Ottsworld - 22 March 2012
I’m staying in a farmhouse? Um, ok that sounds different I thought. Will I be milking cows, gathering eggs, or cleaning out stables? I had been told that farmhouse living was ‘all the rage’ on the little island of Gozo and since I’m no stranger to staying at farms, I figured what the hell. I [...]

Gozo – Where the Air is Sweet
Blog: Ottsworld - 20 March 2012
When I first heard of the island of Gozo, I thought it sounded like a Sesame Street character. It made me think of the old theme song which is strangely accurate for Sesame Street or Gozo. “On my way to where the air is sweet Can you tell me how to get, How to get [...]

A Day in Malta’s Three Cities
Blog: Ottsworld - 16 March 2012
If you have something that everyone wants, then you better protect it; especially if it’s the 16th century and you have the Ottoman Empire salivating at getting revenge. The little island of Malta was a strategic point that has attracted a myriad of nations and tyrants through history. Malta has something that everyone wants – [...]

Creative Connections in Gozo
Blog: Ottsworld - 15 March 2012
Unique Travel Experiences in Malta Artistic expression is one of those strange unfathomable things to me. It’s something I wish I desperately understood and possessed, and I’m delighted when I get to hang out with people who have it. I think I secretly hope it rubs off on me. So when I came across a [...]

Malta Past and Present
Blog: Ottsworld - 13 March 2012
When I heard the name M’dina I immediately conjured up images of knights, narrow alleyways lit by torches, and drama. Yes, sometimes I have an overactive imagination; however, Malta’s town of M’dina does have a moat (never mind that it’s dried up). This once ancient, medieval town was the cornucopia of Maltese civilization. It had [...]

Valletta – Photography of a Historical City
Blog: Ottsworld - 9 March 2012
Yesterday I introduced you to how to spend a day in Valletta. That day actually yielded some wonderful photography by simply slowly walking around, stopping, and looking all around me. The light dances around and the shadows hide hidden treasures. There’s so much to see in Valletta and it’s an adorable city to capture in [...]

Discover Valletta in a Day
Blog: Ottsworld - 8 March 2012
Look in any guide book for Malta and there will be a long list of sites you ‘should’ see in Valletta. After all, the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of history and artifacts. Valletta contains buildings from the 16th century onwards, built during the rule of the Order of St. John of [...]

A Dying Market
Blog: Ottsworld - 5 March 2012
I walked past the old stone steps and suddenly stopped. Nothing stopped me physically, but I was stopped mentally. I turned and looked at the steps and the big building they were attached to and wondered, “Is this it?” How could this be it? It was so quiet, unassuming, and humble. There was no sign, [...]

Walls Made of Rubble in Malta
Blog: Ottsworld - 2 March 2012
I looked out of the van window and had this deja-vu feeling. I saw the wall sections spread across the Malta country-side as if it were a giant patchwork quilt – made of stone. I had seen these walls before, in another country but as long and hard as I stared at the walls and [...]

Maltese Balcony Mystery
Blog: Ottsworld - 1 March 2012
The first thing I noticed in Malta were the balconies; colorful, enclosed, wooden, and on every single home. How could you not notice them, they are a staple in the architecture here. So of course I thought I’d write a simple little post on the balconies of Malta accompanied by some photography of said balconies. [...]

A Holiday in Malta with Kids
Blog: Ciao Bambino! - 19 October 2011
Malta is a shy little archipelago suspended in the middle of the Med. Its modesty is part of its charm, but boy does it have a lot it could brag about. One of its islands is home to what is thought to be the oldest free-standing building in the world. The Egyptian pyramids and Britain’s Stonehenge are youthful in comparison. If America were lucky enough to find the Ġgantija temples on its soil, it would have turned them into a prehistoric theme park, transporting visitors back to its creation in around 3200 BC.

Malta … a lot of sightseeing and even more partying
Blog: The Adventures of D - 26 May 2011
This is a guest post written by Ela Krawczykowska, a London-based freelance journalist from Poland. She loves learning languages, travelling, music and exploring different cultures. Malta, my last holiday destination, is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is tiny indeed, but has so much to offer – small in size, but big [...]

Lady in Malta
Blog: A Lady in London - 28 April 2011
Ten years ago I had no idea where Malta was. In fact, I had never even heard of it. When the activities director from my school in Nice told me that she was going to Malta for the weekend, I was too embarrassed to ask her where it was. Later I asked a friend, who [...]

Cruise baby!
Blog: photito's blog - 23 March 2011
Cruising is not for me. Or so I thought. I was convinced cruise ships were the equivalent of five star resorts on land. A place you go to be served and pampered – and equipped with blinkers for what goes … Continue reading →
