Gondar Today, Gone Tomorrow
Blog: Joe's Trippin' - 7 January 2012
Tales of Camelot are ingrained into the minds of nearly every romanticist. The splendour and intrigue, set among the pageantry of castles and courtyards, have made for the setting of novels and scripts throughout the ages.

A Bit Addis and a Bit a Dat
Blog: Joe's Trippin' - 1 January 2012
For most travellers to or from the West, it seems logical to add the capital of whatever given country to whatever given travel itinerary. And why not? Capitals are usually the cultural, social and economical centres of the country, more often than not with some of the greatest highlights and sites in the region.

Africa Hash 2011, Ethiopia – Shoulder shimmying in Gondar
Blog: Kampala Days (Diary of a Mzungu) - 20 November 2011
Secure in the knowledge that Ethiopia is one of the safest African countries for a woman to travel independently, I’d mentally prepared to spend the rest of the fortnight travelling on my own. But I’m glad I didn’t; I couldn’t have wished for better travelling companions and, to be honest, there was no escaping the [...]

Africa Hash, Ethiopia – The magnificent Tissisat Falls
Blog: Kampala Days (Diary of a Mzungu) - 12 May 2011
Monday is a finger day! To celebrate Strap On’s Ethiopian birthday, Addis Hashers and various hangers-on set sail for Bahir Dar at some ridiculously early o’clock. Slave Trader waved us goodbye – phew! he must’ve been glad to see the back of us. Thus started a 13 hour coach journey accompanied by the sound of [...]

Africa Hash 2011, Ethiopia – Feeling irie in Addis Ababa
Blog: Kampala Days (Diary of a Mzungu) - 10 May 2011
Of a forecast 50+ Kampala Hashers, about half that number slowly dripped into Addis Ababa for Africa Hash 2011, mpole mpole all the way – one of them arrived on Sunday morning. Seriously guys, that’s a lot of beer drinking time you wasted. Hashing, ‘a drinking club with a running problem’ is open to everyone, [...]

Ethiopia calling me – from my sickbed
Blog: Kampala Days (Diary of a Mzungu) - 3 May 2011
Two days before I fly to Ethiopia, and I’m lying in bed with a temperature. I’ve a bed in Addis Ababa and someone to pick me up to the airport – but I still haven’t got a plane ticket. Some mix-up at the bank. My debit card was refused on Friday, and after two long [...]

Eight Destinations that Make Us Dreamy-eyed
Blog: Seat of Our Pants - 22 April 2011
We may not be on the road at the moment, living as we do in the great comforts of our San Francisco apartment. Getting Our Groove On in West Africa
Blog: Honey Service Year - 8 May 2010
Life without music would be meaningless.” - Niezsche [Taken from a marquee billboard advertising the Ghana Music Awards 2010 One night, as we were wandering through our Asylum Down neighborhood in Accra, we heard some great reggae bumping from a small shop with a corrugated metal roof. Being who we are, and feeling the ongoing inspiration of our portable hard-drive of collected music, we popped

Coffee and Ethiopia
Blog: Honey Service Year - 22 April 2010
written by Nathan Another quick note on coffee loving and Ethiopia. For those who love coffee, Ethiopia is your Jerusalem. Not only is this birthplace of humanity also the origin of wild ‘Arabica,’ our coffee ancestor still growing in forests here, Ethiopia still produces the meanest Cup o’ Joe that I have practically ever had. For those readers who know that I proudly decamped (½ time) for

We Do Not Know Ethiopia: Shashemane
Blog: Honey Service Year - 16 April 2010
written by Nathan We have now traveled Ethiopia from as far North at Gondar to Arba Minch in the cultural south. We have tasted so many climates, met so many different and friendly people, seen many a mountain and valley. Much to the contrary of our preferred travel style, we have crisscrossed central Ethiopia covering more than 1500 miles in four weeks. Ethiopia has left us with a sense of awe
