A Nine Day Tour of the Top Tourist Sights in Costa Rica
Blog: Hole In The Donut - 21 April 2012
Following a disappointing week at the beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, I hopped on a bus back to San Jose, where I met up with a group of people for a nine-day tour. As an independent traveler who wanders with no set schedule, I have never been on an organized tour, however [...]

Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula – More Than A Little Disappointing
Blog: Hole In The Donut - 11 April 2012
The old saying, “Expectations are resentments waiting to happen,” is perhaps the best way to describe my recent trip to the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. For years I’d heard tales of the beautiful beaches around Montezuma and Mal Pais, so when I won a nine-day tour of Costa Rica, I decided to go a [...]

Hammerheads Here We Come – Cocos Island, Costa Rica
Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 10 April 2012
By the time you read this we will be hundreds of miles off the coast of Costa Rica on board a liveaboard dive boat called the MV Argo (operated by Undersea Hunter) in the Pacific Ocean near Cocos Island National Park where, with any luck, we will soon find ourselves in the water surrounded by hammerhead sharks. Cocos Island is the largest uninhabited island in the world and one of the most remote national parks in the world. The island is mostly rainforest-covered (the only rainforest in the Pacific) and boasts more than 300 waterfalls, some plunging directly into the ocean. Nice.

Music Festival Central America Style – Festival Imperial DAY 2, Costa Rica
Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 28 March 2012
We love live music. Before embarking on our Journey we spent a lot of time seeing live music and going to music festivals around the US including Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Gathering of the Vibes, Mountain Jam, Jam Cruise, Langerado, etc. The concept of the multi-day, outdoor, multi-stage music festival is not well established in Central America but we’re happy to report that after a four year absence the Festival Imperial in Costa Rica came back with a vengeance this past weekend and we were there.

It has been mentioned before that WE LOVE MUSIC. Before embarking on our Journey we spent a lot of time seeing live music and going to music festivals around the US including Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Gathering of the Vibes, Mountain Jam, Jam Cruise, Langerado, etc. While the concept of the multi-day, outdoor, multi-stage music festival is not well established in Central America we are pleased to announce that after a four year absence the Festival Imperial in Costa Rica came back with a vengeance this past weekend and we were there.

Five Years on the Road: Our Trans-Americas Journey “Road-a-versary” By the Numbers
Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 27 February 2012
Happy Anniversary to us! Or should we say “road-a-versary” (thanks Julie)? Today is day 1,825 of our Trans-Americas Journey road trip. That’s five years of active travel on the road not counting a couple of stretches when we were unexpectedly stuck in one place for reasons beyond our control (looking at you, Chevrolet). We’re not very good at math Our initial description of the Journey predicted three years and 75,000 miles to cover North, Central and South America from the Arctic Ocean to Tierra del Fuego.

Photo of the Day: Red-Eyed Tree Frog – Costa Rica
Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 10 February 2012
We encountered many amazing creatures in the rain forest during our 36 hours at Rainforest Adventures in Costa Rica, which is actually an “adventure park” we can put our stamp of approval on. We’ll be telling you all about Rainforest Adventures soon. In the meantime, check out this red-eyed tree frog which appeared just as we were leaving. On the wagon in a Costa Rica coffee plantation
Blog: Sophie's World - 30 December 2011
I’m not much of a coffee drinker. I don’t particularly like the strong, slightly bitter taste, and it just doesn’t do anything for me. It neither wakes me up in the morning nor keeps me awake at night. Maybe I’m immune. Apparently, I’m not alone. In fact, my reaction to the brew is positively friendly, [...]On the wagon in a Costa Rica coffee plantation is a post from Sophie's World

Cárdenas, Rivas
Blog: Nicaragua Tourist - 1 November 2011
We spent the week in Cárdenas, Rivas. It’s a quaint little fishing town on the south edge of Nicaragua (and Lake Nicaragua – which is the tenth largest lake in the world). There are some really nice views of Ometepe. Interestingly enough, Costa Rica is just a stone’s throw away, the border being separated by [...]
